Investigate Corporate Welfare Deal with Forest Company, CTF
The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) is calling on the Nova Scotia Auditor General to investigate the Nova Scotia government’s purchase of land from Resolute Forest Products in a bailout deal cut just six months ago. The company announced today that it is packing up, selling its assets and firing 320 people.
“This is a sad day for South Shore Nova Scotia, but when are our governments going to learn that these corporate bail-out deals normally go wrong, leaving taxpayers holding the bag,” asked Kevin Lacey, Atlantic Director for the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.
“Our politicians should have known better than to hand a struggling company bags full of taxpayer money, only to see them run back to their head office in Quebec as quick as they possibly could,” continued Lacey.
Resolute Forest Products has already spent $605,000 of the $1.5 million in training money offered to the plant back in December.
The CTF has for years been calling on governments across Canada to end these types of corporate deals.
This deal with Resolute should now be subject to an independent investigation by the Auditor General.

“Taxpayers of this province deserve an independent investigation into how and why their money was recklessly given to a company that has fired all their workers a few months after collecting their cheques from taxpayers,” continued Lacey.
“I’m sure the government is going to justify this bailout as a ‘land purchase’ but we all know that they wouldn’t have purchased this land from this company at this time, had they not needed a taxpayer-funded bailout. It’s nothing more than a corporate welfare smokescreen,” concluded Lacey.

Shame on Orlando Florida - Pass it on!
According to an Amy Goodman article, at least 21 people have been arrested for handing out free food in the park. What the hell is the matter with the citizens of Orlando? Is there zombie dust in their water, or what?
That's some crazy-ass town that arrests people for handing out food to hungry people.
And sheeeeesh, the citizens of Orlando should be hootin' n' hollerin' on the steps if city hall. They should be carrying signs around, saying "What Would Jesus Do?"
These people need to be shamed, and the food givers need to be supported.

Thoughts on The Royal Wedding...
I heard that PM's Tony Blair and Gordon Brown weren't invited to the wedding, and thought it would be fun to have their look-alikes camping out on the royal route, in front of a Union Jack tent, maybe sporting bowlers to match the tent.
It's normal sport that Royal Watchers speculate about what type of outfit and hat the Queen will wear, particularly about the colour. Notice nobody ever wonders aloud, about the hairstyle. This is because the shape never changes, the curls just get a little tighter over time. Somebody should suggest she lose the Spoolies.
Actually, the hairdo's aren't as scary as the hats.
Have you seen those crazy hats?! Since the whole production didn't start til 1:00 am my time, I was going to watch for a few minutes before going to sleep, and catch the highlights the next day. But I had the b-jeeeezes scared outta me by Mz Posh looking like a character from an Ann Rice novel, but with a devils food cake slapped on her forehead. By the time I saw Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, all hope of sleep was finished. Now I don't know if I'll sleep tomorrow night.
My husband was even more flabbergasted than I by the hats. When I explained that the aristocrats call them 'fascinators', he replied, "But I thought that's what tits were for." ...ummm......

The BC Lottery Corporation announced readiness to open their gambling website at 7pm, yesterday, but weren't able to pull it off as planned; hmmmm... guess they didn't yet have all their crooks in a row.
